It’s Okay to “Steal” from Yourself. Just Ask Aaron Sorkin.

Aaron Sorkinn (the guy who wrote “Social Network” and “Moneyball” and TV shows like “The West Wing”) is highly regarded as one of the most talented and prolific writers in Hollywood. Here’s a montage of clips from TV shows and movies he’s written. It speaks for itself.

There are a number or morals you can take away from this story:

… it’s okay not to be original (even with your own stuff)
… it’s okay to “steal” or “copy” ideas from yourself
… just write and let what comes natural happen
… don’t be afraid to use what you’ve already created
…be inspired to be more prolific

Whether or not you take anything away from it, it sure is a fun watch.

  1. That was fun Ron. I read last week that he is suing himself for plagiarism.

  2. Guess he’s expecting less and less of himself.
It’s quite hilarious how some dialogues are word for word!
