When Life Throws You Lemons

We all know the end of this famous, albeit cliched phrase…”make lemonade.” However, no matter how cliched you may think it is, it’s still a truism of life. Let’s face it. Sometimes, life sucks. Bad things happen to good people. Bad people seem to go further. You get laid off. As the wise and wonderful Gandolf shared with Frodo, it is not for us to decide when terrible things like this happen to us, it is up to us to decide what to do with that time.

Sometimes, the bad things that happen to us in life are doorways for even greater adventures ahead. I’m not trying to belittle the marginalize the pain that comes with a layoff. Nor am I trying to oversimplify the solution. It will be hard. But, bottomline, it is up to you to make the best of it. So, you might as well make lemonade.

I was turned on to this movie trailer by Chris Brogan. Very inspirational. Created by Please Feed the Animals, a job community site for laid off ad professionals. Check it out and sign up for their Facebook group.

  1. Love it! It does fit your style, Ron. The entrepreneurial spirit lives on! Getting fired actually helped launch me into my career as an independent videographer. it was the swift kick in the pants I needed!

  2. Thanks Tim. I actually attempted to quit my last “real” job in order tostart my biz. Instead, my boss told me to hang tight and be laid off sincehe knew some were coming down the pike anyway. Got a nice severance.
