Paris, 16mm and Inspiration for Creatives

Last year I was blessed to be able to travel to Paris for the first time. My wife and I went there together to celebrate ten years of marriage. But  we also wanted to make a series of short films about her journey. Going to Paris has been a life-long dream of hers, so I wanted to document her experiences. (Which was a really big deal as she usually likes to be behind the camera, not in front).

The Nostalgia of Film

It’s ironic that during a time when every film that comes out nowadays is 3D, high-definition; when filmmakers like Peter Jackson are trying out hyper-realistic technology like High Frame Rate 3D; when more and more filmmakers are asking for 4K and 5K; when the latest rage is about the newest HD this and 10-bit that, the magic and nuance of 8mm and 16mm film still rings true.

Below is the first in a series of short docs about Tasra’s trip to Paris and her journey as a creative. I wanted to capture the essence and magic of Paris using 16mm film. Let me know what you think?

  1. Is this shot on a dslr and colour graded in post to look like 16mm? I saw some rolling shutter…
